Fight like a girl
There is no question, it is easy to give up. But when you're walking 60 miles, or training to, you can't give up. So, I gathered some quotes that I hope can help you during your training, or on any journey you are trying to stick with.
This first quote is to keep you optimistic, when the challenge seems too big:
The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible. ~Arthur C. Clarke
This quote is great to remember when you feel like giving up:
"Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish." ~John Quincy Adams
This quote represents what I think we need to believe through each of our 60 miles:
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
This last quote reminds me of the entire three day event:
"If not us, who? If not now, when?" ~Kennedy, John F.
This fight isn't going to be easy, but if you FIGHT LIKE A GIRL, it will be done!

Save me, San Francisco
There are a lot of expectations I need San Francisco to meet. See, I am all sort of stressed out lately and whenever I look at the light at the end of the tunnel, I see San Francisco.
For the past few months, and for the next month, I have had a lot on my plate. I need to meet my goal of finishing this 60 mile walk, I need to raise the money to be in the walk, I need to keep up with my school work, I need to arrive at work every day ready to go and I need to, you know, stay sane.
When all of it gets to be too much I think about what an amazing trip and experience I have ahead of me. That's why I find it so crazy that Train just released a song called "Save me, San Francisco."
I think this song is an amazing coincidence for this time in my life. First off, notice the pink lights in the beginning of the song :) Second of all, some of the lyrics represent how much I want this trip to energize me and take some of the stress away. Third and most importantly, I think some of the lyrics in this song really represent the battle against breast cancer.
"I've been high I've been low,
I've been yes and I've been oh, hell no!
I been rock ‘n roll and disco,
won’t you save me San Francisco? "
I think breast cancer patients, survivors and family members who are heading to Cali to make this walk, need it for many more reasons than I do. They will not only accomplish a huge challenge, but they will see the thousands of people supporting them and will get to meet other people who understand their journey.
I am thrilled to wear the names of brave women who have battled this disease and I am anxious to learn about the fascinating people I will meet. I look at all of my life's stresses and realize that they are nothing compared to what these people and families have gone through.

Blood, sweat and tears
When you're walking with me, you never know what you're going to get!
We spent Saturday morning and afternoon walking at Chestnut Ridge Park. Four miles into our walk, I decided to chat while turning off of pavement and onto a stone path. Well, in about one foot twist and a 360-degree spin, I crashed right onto a gravel walkway. Before I knew it, I was on my back with Caitlin and Healy standing above me, looking horrified.
I instantly felt the sting of the scratches and brush burns that still remain on my legs. As my legs started bleeding I realized there was about five people around, staring at me like a crazy person. A nice, young couple asked me if they could do anything, which I appreciated, but all I could hope for was to get up and out of there!
I freaked out for a few seconds, but then realized the girls needed a minute to laugh at me. I let them have their time but then made them walk with me to our car so I could get cleaned up! Only true friends bandage up your gross scratches!
I should take a minute to tell you about the rest of our walk! After my crash landing, we had a really wonderful walk/hike!

We walked up the "blue" trail in Chestnut Ridge Park. It was a really beautiful walk and definitely let us feel a little removed from reality for awhile. We were happy we decided to switch it up a bit and try a trail.
We talked all about San Fran, what we'll do when we get there and what we expect the 3-day to be like. We discussed the kinds of people we expect to meet, and how emotional this journey might be. As excited as we are, we are full of curiosity too!
